HELP US BUILD AN EQUINE CENTER
THE NEED
We need an Equine Center for the housing, training and educational use of horses to help treat PTSD, anxiety and depression in our Heroes.
Horses have a calming and healing ability. They have an innate ability to shadow and reflect emotion with humans which translates perfectly to the recovery from PTSD, anxiety and depression. Not only can horses detect human emotion, but they also react to it. As our attendees change their feelings and emotions around the horses, the horses change their attitude towards their human counterpart.
Currently our horses are housed in Baker, MT. Each retreat requires the horses to be transported back and forth to and from Deadwood, SD. Not only is this not cost-effective, but this 3.5 hour one-way trip causes wear and tear on the horses.
Once the horses are at Sacred Mountain Retreat Center, we do not have the ability to store the horses during inclement weather on-site. The weather in the Black Hills out South Dakota can be extreme. A winter storm can come through and dump five feet of snow over a few short days. Not to mention the possibility of high winds and extreme temperature changes. Due to the lack of facilities, a storm can put a stop to learning and recovery.
