- SMRC retreats are mentor based, peer to peer. Our mentors have been through and completed a retreat. Requirements for mentoring are: 1 Full year of progress from the completion their retreat, a completed application, an interview and attend mentor training.
- You are applying to attend a retreat with Sacred Mountain Retreat Center in Deadwood, SD. During the retreat, everything that is done is done with a team, and you will spend a good amount of time outdoors, weather permitting. A few of our outdoor activities include equine therapy (there is no horseback riding, we use a hands-on approach to equine therapy), blacksmithing, wood working, beautifying the grounds, riding side by sides in the Black Hills, to name a few of our outdoor activities. A few of our indoor activities that include cooking, painting, fire side chats. All attendees, including mentors, are expected to participate in all activities as a team.
- All retreats are Coed, but your roommate will be the same sex. Each room has a bathroom to share with your roommate. We also have 2 community restrooms.
- Service dogs ONLY are welcome. Once your application has been approved, we will ask for service documentation and veterinarian records.
- We ask that the person applying complete the application, this ensures that the applicant is willing and ready to change their lives and ready to take the steps towards healing.
- We do not allow spouses, significant others, or friends to attend a retreat at the same time.
- We do not allow weapons, drugs, or alcohol during a retreat.
- We require all retreat participants to arrive on time and to stay through the entire retreat.
- Within 1 week of being selected for a retreat, in order to secure your spot, we require: $600 deposit (Venmo or Credit Card), that will be refunded to you upon your last day/departure from SMRC. If you cancel for any reason, your deposit will not be refunded. If you are sent home early due to lack of participation, violate others privacy, use drugs/alcohol, have a weapon, show disrespect, violence – verbal or physical, or misconduct, you will not receive your deposit back.
- For those, that cannot afford the $600 deposit, we ask that you fill out a Financial Application Assistance form to determine if you are eligible to receive assistance.
APPLICANT CRITERIA
- SMRC welcomes Active Military, Veterans and First Responders, including Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, EMTs and Correctional Officers who are struggling with PTSD or trauma.
- Active Military and Veterans must provide a DD214. Other military documents, including a VA Benefit Letter, will not be accepted.
- First Responders are required to provide a reference letter proving their service status. If a reference letter is not possible, then a paystub or an employee card showing your service, will be sufficient.
Application Instructions
Thank you for taking the time to fill out the retreat application. We understand that some information may be very personal and difficult to share. Our application is intended to gather information about you to ensure the most successful experience during the retreat. We ask that you complete the application in its entirety, thoroughly and honestly.
- Applications can be directly submitted by pushing submit. You may also download the application to complete and email to: [email protected] or you may print the application and mail to: SMRC 12032 Sacred Mtn Pl., Deadwood, SD 57732.
- Submission of an application does not guarantee you a spot at a retreat.
- Missing information or uncompleted applications will not be considered. This includes your DD214 or reference letter, and “Your Story”.
- Once your application has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. Please check your Spam/Junk folder.
- Within 7 days of your submitted application, a member of SMRC’s Advisory Board will be in contact with you to set up a phone interview, and a Zoom interview with one or more of our Advisory Board members.
- If you are not selected to attend one of the retreats, you may resubmit an application after 1 year.
- If you are selected to attend one of the retreats, a staff member will be in contact with you within 7 days from your interview with the Advisory Board. Please continue to watch your Spam/Junk folder.
- Once a staff member has been in contact with you, you have 7 days to pay your deposit to secure your spot.
- Once selected to attend a retreat, you will receive several emails requiring responses upon your arrival to a retreat. Please check your email.
